TMJ Disorders
The temporomandibular joint connects the lower jaw to the rest of the skull. It is responsible for allowing your mouth to open and close and move from side to side. When this joint is inflamed, painful joint disorders can occur, collectively called TMJ disorders. These disorders can range in severity and can have many causes. - Difficulty or pain with chewing, yawning, or opening the mouth

TMJ disorders can develop for many reasons, but sometimes the reason is not always clear. The following causes are common contributors to TMJ disorders:

- Clenching or grinding of teeth
- Joint displacement

Many times, conservative treatments of self-care (using a mouth guard at night, for example), medications, and steroid injections can successfully manage the painful symptoms of a TMJ disorder.
